Best Private Schools for Parkland Families: A Parent's Firsthand Guide

February 20, 2026SchoolsBy Alex Sverdlik

When families ask about schools, I don't pull up ratings. I tell them about my experience. Two of my daughters attended Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, about 30 minutes from Parkland. One went to Michigan Ross. The other is in pre-med at UF. Our eldest attended high school in La Cañada, California and graduated from Princeton.

Parkland's own public schools are excellent — among the top-rated in Florida — and many local families choose them confidently. For families wanting private education, the surrounding region offers strong options within a 20-30 minute drive.

Pine Crest School

A respected private preparatory school in Fort Lauderdale, with strong academics, involved parents, and a track record of placing students at top universities.

American Heritage School

Private college-prep with campuses in Plantation and Delray Beach. Rigorous STEM focus. Consistently ranked among Florida's top private schools.

North Broward Preparatory

In Coconut Creek, part of the Nord Anglia network. Internationally-minded education with strong arts, athletics, and boarding options.

Which Neighborhoods?

School commute distances vary across Parkland's neighborhoods. Heron Bay and Watercress are reasonable for the Fort Lauderdale and Plantation drives. Let me match the right neighborhood to your school priorities.
